A fire at a foam factory in Chattogram’s Karnaphuli EPZ has been brought under control after three hours. The fire erupted at Zant Accessories factory in the port city’s Karnaphuli EPZ around 3pm on Friday, according to police. Seven firefighting units from Karnaphuli EPZ, EPZ, Port, and Agrabad fire stations responded, along with teams from the Air Force and Navy. Abdur Razzak, Assistant Director of Chattogram Divisional Fire Service, told bdnews24.com that the blaze was brought under control by 4:10pm, but it took until 5:40pm to fully extinguish it. “Our initial assessment suggests the fire was caused by an electrical fault. A full investigation is needed to determine the extent of the damage,” he said. Jamir Hossain Zia, chief of EPZ Police Station, told bdnews24.com that, along with the fire service, members of the Army, Navy, and Air Force were present at the scene. “Although the flames were no longer visible from the outside, thick smoke continues to billow out of the factory,” he said. He added that 15 workers were inside the factory when the fire broke out, all of whom managed to escape safely.
